SUMMARY:CLS Knowledge Collective: Call for Applications | PhD Retreat in Beirut
DESCRIPTION:This event has been postponed!\n \nThe Centre for Lebanese Studies (CLS) is organising a two-day PhD Retreat in Beirut to support PhD students in Lebanon in strengthening their research. The retreat is part of CLS’s long-term commitment to support early-career scholars and amplify knowledge production from the region. It is organised through CLS’s Knowledge Collective, which brings together early-career researchers to foster collaboration, networking, and inclusive academic spaces.  \nThe retreat offers participants the opportunity to present key aspects of their doctoral research and receive constructive feedback. Participants will be asked to prepare a 15-minute presentation on a specific theme from their PhD research. This could relate to conceptual development, a methodological challenge or dilemma, ethical questions, or analysis. Each presentation will be followed by plenary feedback and discussion, allowing students to receive input from peers and academic experts. \nIn addition, the retreat includes a mentorship component led by three seasoned academics from the region. Participants will work closely with assigned mentors who will provide tailored guidance and one-on-one support on key areas of doctoral development. This includes the role of the literature review in a PhD thesis, research design and fieldwork, and how to theorise in a PhD.  \nDate: February 16-17, 2026 (postponed)\nLocation: Padova Hotel, Horch Tabet – Sin El Fil\nLanguage: Arabic\nParticipants: 8–10 PhD students specialising in the Social Sciences \nMeals, transportation, and accommodation (if needed) are fully covered. \nTo apply, please send the following to: applications@lebanesestudies.com \n\nYour CV \n\n\nA 300-word abstract of your research \n\n\nA 300-word statement explaining why you would like to participate in the retreat (please include your area of research, name of your university, and indicate whether you require accommodation in Beirut) \n\nDeadline to apply: February 6, 2026 \nIf you have any questions, you can send an email to cyrine.saab@lebanesestudies.com  \nWe look forward to receiving your applications!\n
