SUMMARY:Two day PHD Retreat in Cambridge
DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Lebanese Studies (CLS), in partnership with the Centre for Southwest Asian and North African Studies (CSWANA) at the Faculty of History and Homerton College, University of Cambridge, is organising a PhD workshop in Cambridge for doctoral students based in Lebanon and the UK. \nThis workshop is part of the organisers’ long-term commitment to supporting early-career scholars by strengthening their research, fostering critical scholarship, and nurturing a collaborative community grounded in ethics of care. It offers participants the opportunity to present key aspects of their doctoral research and receive constructive, interdisciplinary feedback. \nThe workshop is open to PhD candidates at any stage of their studies who are based in the UK or Lebanon and whose research focuses on the Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region. Applicants should be engaged in social science, humanities, or related disciplines, including but not limited to forced migration studies, refugee education, sociology, history, political science, anthropology, climate justice, and disability studies. \nJune 30 – July 1, 2026\nHomerton College\nLanguage: English  \n \nEligibility  \nThe workshop is open to PhD students in the social sciences from Lebanon and UK, at any stage of their doctoral studies.  \nFunding   \nMeals, travel, local transportation, and accommodation are fully covered upon eligibility.  \nThree scholarships for scholars from Lebanon are available.  \nApplication Process   \nTo apply, please send the following to applications@lebanesestudies.com: \n\nYour CV  \n\n\nA 300-word abstract of your research  \n\n\nA 300-word statement explaining why you would like to participate in this retreat (Please include your area of research, name of your university, and indicate whether you require accommodation in Cambridge).  \n\nThe deadline to apply is May 2, 2026. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by May 11, 2026.   \n Meals, transportation, and accommodation (if needed) are fully covered.\n
