The Centre for Lebanese Studies at the Lebanese American University and the UCL Institute of Education, University College London organized “A Consultation Workshop on Teaching Professional Development (TPD) through Technology” on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Sonbola Learning Centre in Anjar from 10:00 a.m. till 02:00 p.m.
This consultation meeting informed the process of developing a new professional development course and a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) for teachers and educational practitioners who work in educational contexts that are affected by forced displacement. This goes along with Sonbola’s work in collaboration with the American University of Beirut to establish a training program for Syrian teachers.
The workshop brought together practitioners from the education sector including, educational institutions and NGOs in Lebanon who share a common interest in strengthening teaching skills and quality of education work within their organizations and communities where they work.
This workshop is a follow-up to a series of research activities for the ESRC-funded RELIEF Centre, a five-year collaborative project between University College London, the Centre for Lebanese Studies and the American University of Beirut. The RELIEF Centre is an interdisciplinary project aiming to speed up the sustainability transitions that the world critically requires in the context of large-scale movement of people. Focusing specifically on Lebanon, RELIEF will develop a programme of research and education that addresses the challenges of capacity building, public service provision and sustainable value creation in cities with high numbers of refugees.
