About the Project
“Safe to Learn”, an initiative in Lebanon launched by International Alert in collaboration with the Centre for Lebanese Studies (CLS) and three other Non-Governmental Organizations that run six different non-formal education centers (NFEs).
The project aims to prevent and address violence against children in their learning environments, and increase the evidence base and capacity of schools and learning centres to reduce violence against children in areas with high concentrations of refugees in Lebanon.
View MoreThe 16-months project includes two academic reports answering one research question: What are the various effective child-protection strategies adopted in and around schools and non-formal education centers from the perspective of school children and their teachers.
To answer this question, the research team targeted 42 teachers and 132 children from six NFEs and five public schools. Two different instruments were used with the two groups of participants: a semi-structured interview for teachers and a focus group activity for children.
The research team hopes through the generated evidence to inform the work of all stakeholders at schools and non-formal education centers in addition to that of concerned civil society actors.
“Safe to Learn” also includes the production of 1 awareness campaign and 3 videos.
