Education for a Hopeful Future – Syrian Refugee Children in Lebanon
The Centre for Lebanese Studies ("CLS") is pleased to invite you to a talk by its Director, Dr Maha Shuayb, on Thursday 14 April 2016 at 19:00pm entitled: "Education for a Hopeful Future – Syrian Refugee Children in Lebanon ". The talk, to be followed by a question and answer session, will be held at the Arab British Chamber of Commerce, 43 Upper Grosvenor Street, W1Y. Refreshments will be served at 18h30pm.
Dr Shuayb will present some of the results of the various research studies conducted by the CLS, as the Syrian conflict enters its sixth year, and will assess the challenges facing Lebanon in dealing with a crisis of this scale. With her background in education, Dr Shuayb will examine the obstacles to educate the more than 400,000 Syrian children in Lebanon, given the limited capacity of the Lebanese public sector to absorb such an influx.
Dr Shuayb, who is based in Beirut, became Director of the CLS in 2012, after joining in 2008 as Senior CLS Research Fellow at St Antony's College, Oxford. She holds a PhD in Education from Cambridge, and a Bsc in Sociology from the Lebanese University. She is a widely recognised expert and writer on education and social cohesion in the Arab world.
Should you wish to attend, kindly RSVP to Leila Buheiry, [email protected]. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Admission is free of charge.
We look forward to seeing many of you on April 14th.
