As the Syrian crisis enters its fourth year, the situation continues to become more difficult for refugees, host communities, and donors. Among Syrian refugees, youth are one of the most critically affected groups. With low prospects for education and high risks of exploitation in the job market, they are most vulnerable for recruitment by extremists. And the same can be said for youth in host communities, who are also suffering economic fallout from the refugee influx. |
The conference aims to identify potential solutions that could stem the marginalization of the Syrian and Lebanese youth and their consequent radicalization. It will also assess the current coordination of crisis response efforts among the public and private sectors, NGOs, and donors.

Mario Abou Zeid is a research analyst at the Carnegie Middle East Center. Haneen Al Sayyed is the coordinator for the World Bank Human development Program for Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria. Lars Erslev Andersen is a senior researcher on international security at the Danish Institute for International Studies. Tobias Gemmerlie is a senior researcher on international security at the Danish Institute for International Studies. Lina Khatib is the director of the Carnegie Middle East Center. Kamel Kosbar is the president of the Sidon Syrian Relief Union. Nizar Saghiyeh is the director of the Legal Agenda. Maha Shuayb is the director of the Center for Lebanese Studies. |
