Dr. Ghia Osseiran
Dr. Ghia Osseiran is a postdoctoral fellow at the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS). Her research investigates the impact of higher education massification on graduate labour market outcomes and the ways in which graduate skills are utilized in the workplace in Lebanon.
Ghia has a PhD in Education from the University of Oxford (DPhil, 2017), and has also studied at Columbia University (MIA, 2005) and the American University of Beirut (BA, 2003). She has over 8 years of experience in development, having worked with a number of international organizations (ILO and UNDP) and NGOs (Tahaddi Lebanon) in Beirut and New York.
Ghia’s postdoctoral research employs mixed methods to explore graduate labour market capabilities, the incidence and determinants of mismatch and the changing nature of graduate jobs. Semi-structured interviews with graduates are used to explore youth labour market aspirations in light of the increasing trend of occupational drifting down of university graduates into medium and low-skill occupations that one generation ago did not require graduate credentials and skills. Semi-structured interviews with employers are also used to investigate changes in graduate recruitment trends, job content and graduate skills utilization in recently graduatized occupations.
