Until We’re All Free: Student Solidarity with Palestine in Jordan, Mexico and South Africa

The ongoing genocide in Palestine has reignited debates within university communities about the responsibility of academic institutions during times of social and political crisis. How should universities respond to such atrocities? And what can their members do to help resist mass violence and injustices of this kind? Around the world, students have led the way in answering these questions, at times putting their studies, careers and safety at risk. In response, many have faced repressive tactics from university and state officials. In this session, we will hear from student activists in Jordan, Mexico and South Africa about their efforts to resist the genocide in Palestine. They will discuss the practical strategies they’ve used to organize and build their movements as well as the ethical challenges surrounding solidarity work in their universities and contexts.
The online session will feature students from the University of Jordan, the University of Cape Town and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Simultaneous translation in English, Arabic and Spanish will also be provided

أعادت الإبادة الجماعية المستمرة في فلسطين إشعال المناقشات داخل المجتمعات الجامعية حول مسؤولية المؤسسات الأكاديمية في أوقات الأزمات الاجتماعية والسياسية. فكيف ينبغي للجامعات أن ترد على مثل هذه الفظائع؟ وما الذي يمكن أن يفعله أعضاؤها للمساعدة في مقاومة العنف الجماعي والظلم ؟ لقد قاد الطلاب/ات في جميع أنحاء العالم الطريق للإجابة على هذه الأسئلة، مما يعرض في بعض الأحيان دراساتهم ومهنهم وسلامتهم للخطر. ورداً على ذلك، واجه الكثيرون أساليب قمعية من مسؤولي الجامعات والدولة. في هذه الجلسة سنستمع إلى الناشطين/ات من الطلبة و الطالبات في الأردن والمكسيك وجنوب أفريقيا حول جهودهم في مقاومة الإبادة الجماعية في فلسطين. وسيناقشون الاستراتيجيات العملية التي استخدموها لتنظيم وبناء حركاتهم بالإضافة إلى التحديات الأخلاقية المحيطة بالعمل التضامني في جامعاتهم وسياقاتهم. ستضم هذه الحوارية طلابًا و طالبات من الجامعة الأردنية وجامعة كيب تاون والجامعة الوطنية المستقلة في المكسيك. سيتم أيضًا توفير الترجمة الفورية باللغات الإنجليزية والعربية والإسبانية

El genocidio en curso en Palestina ha reiniciado los debates dentro de las comunidades universitarias sobre la responsabilidad de las instituciones académicas durante los tiempos de crisis sociales y políticas. ¿Cómo deberían de responder las universidades ante tales atrocidades? ¿Y qué pueden hacer sus miembros para colaborar en la resistencia a la violencia masiva y a las injusticias de esta índole? En todo el mundo, los estudiantes han liderado el camino hacia la respuesta a estas preguntas, en ocasiones poniendo en peligro sus carreras y su propia seguridad. Como respuesta, muchos se han enfrentado a tácticas represivas por parte de funcionarios universitarios y estatales. En esta sesión, escucharemos a estudiantes activistas de Jordania, México y Sudáfrica hablar sobre sus esfuerzos para resistir el genocidio en Palestina. Analizarán las estrategias prácticas que han utilizado para organizar y construir sus movimientos, así como los desafíos éticos que rodean la labor de solidaridad en sus universidades y en sus contextos. La sesión en línea contará con estudiantes de la Universidad de Jordania (University of Jordan), la Universidad de Ciudad del Cabo (University of Cape Town) y la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. También se proporcionará interpretación simultánea en inglés, árabe y español.
