The Lebanese Association for History (LAH) and the Centre for Lebanese Studies (CLS) conducted three workshops for CERD as part of an exchange of expertise on January 25 and 26, 2018. This workshop was facilitated by Nayla Khodr Hamadeh, LAH President and Dr. Maha Shuayb, the Director of the Centre for Lebanese Studies.
The workshop revealed how the disciplinary approach supports building historical thinking, developing critical and creative thinking and moving the discourse away from one grand narrative that mainly aims at building a collective memory. This brought the discourse to the trends and aims in history education worldwide. In the third workshop, participants examined history curricula from three countries. Together they critically reflected on drafts previously presented in Lebanon and raised recommendations for a future curriculum.
