British Academy – Unpacking the industry of refugee education and research towards an equitable theory and practice

About

This project aims to engage with issues related to refugee education globally. While the research takes place in Lebanon the project aims to decenter theorizing about refugee education and education in emergencies, ensuring that experiences of teachers, students and communities in the Global South set the agenda for their education planning and implementation. The project includes a number of activities, including policy research, capacity building for teachers, academics and emerging researchers as well as producing contextualised and rooted knowledge. This project is implemented in collaboration with the University of Cambridge. We also partner with various institutions academic, community based and INGOs to ensure a wider outreach and sustainability of the work.

Programme

1. Policy Research

Focused on tracing and analysing the process of policy formation and its impact on refugees’ education outcomes, and on strengthening the national educational systems in Lebanon.

2. Supporting Early Career Researchers
Targeted for junior scholars in both the Global South and North focused on education in emergency and conflict.

3. Education Research, Policy And Practice Hub
Aimed at linking research with policy and practice. The aim of this study is to identify good practices and create an open dialogue around the making of educational policies by bringing together policy-makers and influencers as well as teachers, students, parents and NGOs to engage in a reflective discussion on the lessons learnt from the Lebanese experience of schooling Syrian refugees through the public education system.
